YouTube takedowns

For my YouTube/Juhasz response, I made a little video about all the content that gets taken down from the site for various reasons, most of them having to do with copyright. Amazingly, the audio track was muted as soon as the video went up!

I can send along a .m4v file if anyone wants to experience (hear) the video in full. I'm actually not quite sure how well it works silent, though to have been silenced is fitting.

Here's the email I received:

Dear itchybramble,

Your video, YouTube takedowns, may have content that is owned or licensed by WMG.

No action is required on your part; however, if you are interested in learning how this affects your video, please visit the Content ID Matches section of your account for more information.

Sincerely,
- The YouTube Team

  1. the preservation characteristics of youtube that you demonstrate highlight the importance or role of forgetting in the archive as not only legal agency (copyright, explicit content, etc.), but as a cultural/technological need to "forget." the idea of an excess of information or rather, information that becomes superfluous and harmful to (by slowing, clogging, complicating) the machine, archive, or functions of a society/self in remembering/retrieval/processing signify that the effort to retain, absorb, and move accompany a sort of purging.

this is the foundation of my defense for rejecting former friends (acquaintances?) on facebook: there is a reason why we forgot one another.
