w/r/t database-driven scholarship: this talk by the guy who invented the WWW addresses some of the sweeping changes we can expect as the organizing principle of the Web evolves away from a system of linked documents to one of linked data, effectively changing the landscape from a network of silo-style databases into a massive single database.
