Kathleen Fitzpatrick: Updates on the Future of Scholarly Publishing

If you think that scholarly publication models based on scarcity of resources and opaque peer review processes no longer make sense in the context of a massively-networked information society, then you'll love what Kathleen Fitzpatrick has to say. Her blog at MediaCommons is a great starting point for scholars interested in having a peek at where the academic press is heading.

In addition to her work editing and conceptualizing MediaCommons, Fitzpatrick has also been involved in myriad other future-of-scholarship initiatives. CommentPress (now known as digress.it, and no longer associated with Fitzpatrick or the Institute for the Future of the Book), for example, is an excellent Wordpress plugin that enables a variety of multi-user/multi-modal textual annotation functions.
